Rhinojewel Gem Tools

The Rhinojewel Gem Tools group comprises tools which are mainly used when working with a variety of different gem cuts or during those stages of the modeling process when we are required to prepare an item of jewelry for the setting of gems.

Below are brief descriptions and video samples showing what each tool in this group does.

The first two tabs of this tool contain a library of more than 50 different gem cuts which can be inserted into a project, scaled and rotated. The third tab is used to specify custom values for the Length, Width and Depth of a stone (activate this feature by right-clicking on the gem cut you wish to customize). All gems can be rendered with Rhinojewel's gemological materials for Flamingo or with any other rendering software such as V-Ray, Maxwell Render, HyperShot, etc.

Easily create complex pavé designs with this advanced tool. Pave a surface with simple circles which can be converted at any moment in time into brilliant-cut gems, drills or beads. The new Collision Detection feature allows to work with great precision and makes it easy to place stones at a set distance from one another, all the while visualizing in real time distances between gems.

Automatically places beads (micro-prongs) on pavés of honeycomb design. This tool calculates the optimum position for the placement of pavé beads, for which a range of heights and diameters can be specified. Choose between three different bead profiles or use your own custom bead designs. It is also possible to increase bead diameters after their placement to make sure they properly carry out their function between stones. All of these features save an enormous amount of time in otherwise manual operations.

This tool is used to place small numbers of stones on a surface (for complex pavés it is best to use the Insert Pavé tool). It is also a great tool for novice users thanks to its ease of use. Use any of the four drills available or up to six customizable alternatives, then insert them by size. Hide the drill layer for easier visualization during placement.

Stone Weights in Rhinojewel 5.0 Stone Weights

Calculates the carat weight of the stones you select. It can calculate carat weights for the majority of gemological materials. Total carats for eight of the most widely used gemstones are shown by default while other gems can be selected from a drop-down menu. It is possible to generate a report (also in Excel format) showing number of stones by diameter and total cost of stones.

Generates quick reports for jewels in an Excel sheet which can be used as the item card (which can be further modified and reworked). The report automatically informs of the metal weights, gems used, diameters of any brilliant-cut stones etc. This report is also easily customized adding company logos, details of designer, client and other comments.

Allows to view the size or weight of brilliant-cut stones in Rhinojewel by inserting a note at the center of each stone selected showing its size in millimeters or weight in carats. This is particularly useful when doing pave designs featuring many stones of different sizes, when a screen capture can be printed out and handed to the gem supplier and stone setter for a smoother and faster workflow.

Allows to select brilliant-cut stones within a specific range of sizes (mm) or weights (cts). This in turn allows to easily apply different materials to stones of different size groups. In a pave design with variable size stones for example it is possible to apply diamond to stones smaller than 1.5mm and pink sapphire to stones larger than 1.5mm.

Creates automatic pavés on flat or curved rectangular surfaces, with stones placed in the typical fashion used in jewelry. It is generally advisable to insert blocks/circles that can later on be switched for any type of drill or insert beads automatically. Another technique is to develop a pavé on a larger rectangular surface from which to cut out your desired irregular surface.

Applies several objects along a curve, perpendicular to a surface. It is generally used to apply text without incurring into deformation of ovals or circles. It allows for variation in the size of the objects and the distance between them or the distance between groups of objects in the case we are repeating groups. It is also possible to determine the distance from the beginning of the curve from which the array starts.

Places round gemstones in line and of variable size automatically adapting to the width of a surface. It works by specifying the diameter of the original stone (generally an average size of the stones which will be placed) and the distance to maintain between stones. It is also possible to determine how close the stones will be to the margin of the surface, or by how much they will exceed the surface margins.
